South Florida later cut into the deficit with five straight points, but Syracuse closed the half by scoring the final 11 points and took a 35-19 lead into the locker room.

The Orange continued to hold a double-digit lead through much of the second half, but a 12-3 run from the Bulls capped on a Jones three-pointer with 8 1/2 minutes to play cut the deficit to 50-44.

South Florida continued to chip away at the deficit and a Jones slam made it a two-point game, 55-53, but Flynn countered with a jumper with two minutes to play.

After Augustus Gilchrist drained a jumper for South Florida, Eric Devendorf made two from the stripe to keep the four-point advantage with 19 seconds left.

Jesus Verdejo then missed a three-pointer and Ajayi grabbed the offensive board, but he missed the layup and Syracuse escaped with the win.
